Window Tinting Myths

Window Tinting Myths

Before window tinting at Maya Restaurant Clear View Window Tinting 3M Prestige Window Film

Window Tinting Myths and Misconceptions-

You have probably seen our tinting

Clear View Window Tinting has installed 3M film in businesses and homes all over Central VA.  There’s a good chance you have been in some these retail spaces and restaurants. More importantly, if you’ve been to these places, you probably didn’t notice the window tinting on the windows. That’s because when window tinting is properly installed, it is virtually unnoticeable.

Myth #1

Window Film is too dark

Fact: Our window tinting will shade a window, however that does not mean it will be dark. 3M Window tinting comes in a wide range of shading options without making the room dark.  Our window tinting softens and filters light. Your clients can enjoy a room with an appropriate amount of light in comfort.

Myth #2

Window Film Does Not Last

Fact: The effective life of window film will vary by the type of film, type of glass, window construction, compass orientation of glass, and in which part of the world the building is located.  All 3M window films for residential and commercial use are warranted by the film manufacturers for a minimum of ten years and up to fifteen years.

Myth #3

Window Film Will Distort the View

Fact: Our 3M™ films are optically clear so there is zero distortion. Also, there are no bronzes, blues or greens added to our films like some other company’s films. So the colors seen through 3M tinting are unchanged. Our tinting actually improves the quality of the view. Our customers state that colors seem more vibrant and that the view is improved.

Myth #4

Window film will peel and bubble over time

Fact: Many people’s only experience with window tinting is when they have observed a window film that has turned purple or is bubbling. This looks terrible and is usually the result of a poor-quality, dyed film being installed.  Clear View Window Tinting uses  3M™ window films exclusively because they are optically clear and come with a lifetime warranty against discoloration, bubbling and peeling. Most people are unaware that the window film is even there.

Myth #5

Window Films are very expensive

Fact: The cost of window tinting is much lower than replacing windows and with the money you save on heating and cooling bills, they pay for themselves in as little as 2-4 years.

Here are a few of our customers that you may recognize,  Lampo Pizzeria, Mas Tapas, Maya Restaurant, and Sticks Kebob in Charlottesville Virginia. You should check out some of these places and see for yourself.

How Secure Is Your Home?

In recent months,  some Charlottesville area residents were the victims of home invasions.  In response, Clear View Window has helped area residents to fortify their homes from intruders.

When it comes to securing your home, most people are very confident about what needs to be done. Make sure you have good locks on the windows and doors. Install security cameras and an alarm system. In certain cases, have a door buzz in system to limit access. Have a plan in case there is an incident.

These are all necessary, however, most people don’t consider the glass. Windows are usually overlooked and become the weakest point in the system.Unless the glass is fortified in some way, you are still vulnerable. You need to consider 3M Security Film to strengthen your glass.

Employee Productivity and Health

Employee Productivity and Health

Employee Productivity and Lighting

As an employer, you know that employee health and general well have a major impact on your organization, and your bottom line. Were you also aware how great a role lighting plays in affecting employee productivity?

Increased exposure to natural light in offices has been linked to happier workers, less absenteeism and sick days, and higher employee productivity. According to Ivy Cheung, the co-author of a Northwestern University Medicine study,“the extent to which daylight exposure impacts office workers is remarkable”.

People who work in day lit and full-spectrum office buildings report an increase in general well being. Specific benefits in these types of office environments include better health, reduced absenteeism, and increased employee productivity,

Improper Lighting Effects

Dim lighting causes eye strain and headaches because the insufficient lighting forces our eyes to work harder in order to see. This, in turn, can result in fatigue, and a lack of focus which are not ideal qualities in the workplace!

In the same way, florescent lighting equally provokes eye strain and is a major cause for migraines. Insufficient or unpleasant lighting can be dangerous in the workplace for several reasons. First, prolonged eye strain throughout the day drastically reduces concentration.
Secondly, employees are less motivated and carry out tasks less efficiently.  In addition, employees can also become tired more quickly which can lead to accidents.

Improper lighting conditions can result in excessive glare, high temperatures and increase the risk of headaches and migraines. The time lost due to employee fatigue and illness, made worse by poor lighting conditions, has a significant impact on absenteeism and productivity.

Office Health

Studies show that the proper use of daylighting decreases the occurrence of headaches, SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) sleep disorders, and eyestrain. Headaches and SAD are related to insufficient light levels. The number one health problem in offices is eyestrain.

The proper integration and management of daylighting in an office building provides the best spectrum of light for the eye. Eyestrain is diminished with landscape view through windows because the combination of short and long range views allows the eye to refocus. When the eye is not allowed to refocus to different distances, the dilating muscles are conditioned to a limited range of perspective. This can lead to near or far sightedness.

Another important yet simple effect from daylighting could be a more positive mood for employees. Increased job satisfaction, work involvement, motivation, organizational attachment, and lowered absenteeism could result from an improved mood. The mixture of softening harsh glare while enabling your employees to have views of the outdoors is a benefit of the correct application of the appropriate window film.

Solutions

Venetian blinds and shades by themselves are not a viable tactic.  Blinds and shades eliminate natural light and views to the outside and are not a sufficient heat reducing solution.

3M™ Window Films allow the proper amount of daylighting and reduce three to six times more heat from the sun than closed blinds or shades while allowing employees to enjoy the views of the outside.  Your employees’ views will be more pleasant and optically clear with the application of 3M™ Window Films due to their glare reducing capabilities and low interior reflectivity.

This in turn, decreases absenteeism and helps improve your organization’s productivity and offers a very quick payback in money saved and revenue increases.  In addition, 3M™ Window Films have a payback period of typically 2 to 6 years in energy savings alone. Couple those with the life expectancy of 3M™ Window Films at greater than 20 years, is the reason why window film was listed in a US Department of Energy Study as one of only four technologies that received the highest probability of success for payback.

Furniture Fading & Floor Fading Facts

Furniture Fading & Floor Fading Facts

Furniture Fading & Floor Fading

Furniture fading and floor fading happen before most people become aware of it. The first time they notice the sun damage is after they move a piece of furniture or move a rug. By then, it is too late. The damage has occurred and will continue to happen unless the unfiltered sunlight is prevented from coming into their home.

 Myths about Fading

•  UV Rays are solely responsible for sun damage and fading

•  Blinds, shades, or curtains do a good job at preventing sun damage

•  Double Pane & LowE windows filter enough damaging rays to prevent fading

•  Only direct sunlight causes significant fading & sun damage

All 3M window films block up to 99.9% of UV light

Night Vision and Prestige window tinting will give you great UV protection. But that is not all that they do to protect your home and valuables. Our UV tint also filters out 97% of the Infrared light and up to 85% of the visible light. This is important because those parts of light contribute to furniture and floor fading.

Not only does UV light contribute to fading, but so do visible light (25%) and infrared heat from the sun (25%). 3M™ window tinting helps to block out visible light and heat to minimize your fabric fade. “Other” (10%) refers to variables that are beyond your control – such as orientation of your windows, and the sensitivity of the materials in your home to the sun. Our 3M™ Window tinting can filter our as much as 90% of these rays while conserving natural light and your views.

Sun Damage Through Glass

Sun Damage Through Glass

Did You Know?

While it’s understood that taking sun safety precautions is important outside, few people realize they can sustain sun damage indoors, too.

The UVA Rays that pass through glass are more damaging in your office or home than the direct sunlight outside.

This is because your skin doesn’t have the normal protective benefit of Vitamin D production, AND the activation of your skin’s immune system caused by exposure to UVB Rays that don’t pass through glass.

In addition, the skin does not typically redden or burn while inside due to the glass blocking UVB Rays which is typically the first indicator to people they’re receiving too much sun exposure.

“To see the damage that untreated glass can do, take a close look at the furnishings in your home that are hit by direct sunlight,” says Perry Robins, MD, President of The Skin Cancer Foundation. “If the sun has faded the color of your sofa, it can just as easily damage your skin when you sit there.”

At one time experts thought that only UVB was a concern, but more has been learned about the damage caused by UVA rays.   Most of us are exposed to large amounts of UVA throughout our lifetime. UVA rays account for up to 95% of the UV Radiation reaching the earth’s surface. Even though they are less intense than UVB, UVA Rays are 30 to 50 times more prevalent.

UVA rays penetrate the skin more deeply than UVB and has long been known to play a major role in skin aging and wrinkling. UVA penetrates clouds and glass. They’re present with relatively equal intensity during all daylight hours and throughout the year.

UVB Rays also trigger the production of Vitamin D, Vitamin D helps strengthen bones, muscles, and the body’s immune system, but they do not significantly penetrate glass.

Direct Sunlight Exposure compared with Sunlight Exposure through Glass:

  • Glass blocks UVB Rays while allowing most UVA Rays to pass through
  • Appropriate UVB exposure activates Vitamin D production and actually serves to counteract skin damage and inflammation
  • UVA exposure is a skin cancer risk factor, penetrating more deeply into the skin, where most skin cancer develops..
  • Excessive UVA exposure is associated with wrinkling, immune suppression, oxidative stress, and related aging.

The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends 3M™ Window Films as a solution to UV rejection in your home or office. 3M™ Window Films block 99.9% of UV Rays.

Available in varied tints, residential and commercial window films can also cut down glare by more than half while allowing 30-80 percent of visible light to get through, depending on the customer’s needs. The benefits of installing window film go beyond protecting one’s skin and household items, as it also can reduce energy costs. In hot weather, window film cuts down heat within the home and in cold weather it reflects interior heat back into the home.

Contact Clear View Window Tinting to find out how you can proactively protect your family or your employees from UV Rays.

We look forward to answering your questions!
